moduLAR - Final Work Degree
Year
2021
Country
Brazil
Given the increasing incidence of natural disasters and the forced displacement of populations to inadequate areas, this project proposes the development of temporary housing that ensures dignified living conditions in post-disaster scenarios.
The research analyzed the main natural disasters in Brazil and worldwide, highlighting inefficiencies in emergency management. As a case study, the Fundão dam collapse (Mariana, MG – 2015) was examined, allowing for a design experiment aligned with the realities of such events.
The project focuses on low-cost, sustainable, and easy-to-assemble solutions, enabling users to set up their own units. Material selection was based on cost, weight, and sustainability, while the modular system was designed for efficient transportation, adopting dimensions compatible with Munck trucks.
The proposal features compact and transportable modules, organized into four functional cores: kitchenette, bathroom, single wardrobe, and double wardrobe. Based on these elements, three housing typologies were developed to accommodate different family sizes: Type A (1-2 people); Type B (3-4 people); Type C (5-6 people).
This flexible modular system aims to provide a rapid and efficient response for communities affected by disasters, minimizing social and environmental impacts.
